After having released a few solo studio albums and departing from his band, King Of Diamonds (twice already), Joshua Smith decided to continue his solo career, and look for a band to collaborate with and be apart of. This, along with tensions within the band, led him to leave KOD for a third and final time. Now his search for a new band had officially begun. "Of course I love recording solo. I get the freedom of writing on my own, performing on my own, and I'm able to do exactly as I want. But, it gets boring and frustrating. Being in a band is just as great. Collaboration can be a fantastic thing and working with great musicians is a fantastic experience" (Joshua Smith).
Once King Of Diamonds guitarist, William Konys, heard about Smith's final departure, he knew that the band's days had come to an end. So, he decided that he would leave King Of Diamonds as well, but not as publically announced.
About a week had passed and King Of Diamonds bass player, Jake Bancroft, came to the realization that without two of the band's key musicians, they would get nowhere. That was when he finally made his decision to leave the band for his first and final time.
A few more days went by. Both Smith and Bancroft were eager to collaborate and release material, so they joined together as a duo to make Fully Empty. They soon realized that they needed a guitarist, so of course, they asked their former bandmate, William Konys,to join the band. He accepted and the band was now a trio.
There was still one thing missing: a drummer. The search for a drummer went on for almost 2 years. All three band members were figuring out which people they knew who either played drums or who might be interested in joining. But after a long search and looking at several candidates, the perfect addition to Fully Empty would be Hunter Hunter Mesuda. Although Hunter is primarily a guitarist, his drumming is excellent for what the group was looking for.
In that same year, Anthony Caruso was recruited as another songwriter and guitarist for the group. The songwriting trio of Smith, Konys, and Caruso has an endless amount of musical possibilities.
